The Kindergarten curriculum is presented developmentally to the children. The curriculum meets the needs of each child and promotes the growth of each individual child. The social / emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative development of each child is addressed in each area of curriculum.

Language Arts (Reading and Writing)

A balanced literacy approach to reading and writing is provided. Through the exposure and participation in stories, poems and songs presented in printed form, children will develop awareness that print has meaning. Literacy will continue to develop as children use books as sources of information and enjoyment.


  • Phonemic awareness is stressed including:
  • Recognizing pairs of rhyming words.
  • Identifying initial and final consonant sounds in words.
  • Identifying onsets and rimes to form words.
  • Recognizing and naming letters of the alphabet.
  • Identifying and producing letter sounds.
  • Produce early approximated writing.
  • Read emergent high frequency words.
  • Recognize word families.
  • Make prediction, draw conclusions, sequence and compare and contrast events in a story.

Math

The kindergarten curriculum supplies a hands-on learning approach in developing the children’s concepts in math. All lessons include visual materials for the children to enhance their mathematical abilities. The children will engage in problem solving, communicating, and reasoning.

The curriculum uses the children’s natural curiosity to problem solve, compare, and make a hypothesis. Children will investigate with living and non-living things. Units covered will include:

Social Studies

Art

Students will learn various skills and techniques while encouraged to engage in self-expression.

Religion

The curriculum encourages the students to form a personal relationship with God. The curriculum includes:

  • How God created the world.

  • Teaches the students to prepare for advent and Lent.
  • Prayers: Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, and Our Father
